STH 113 Crash

On August 21, 2017 at 9:03pm the Sauk County Communications Center received a call regarding a single vehicle crash on STH 113 in the Township of Merrimac.

Sheriff’s Deputies, Merrimac Fire and First Responders, Sauk Prairie Ambulance, and  Baraboo Ambulance responded to the scene.  An initial investigation revealed that a 2005 Ford sedan being operated by Jesse Ontiveros, age 31 of Baraboo, was traveling south on STH 113 when he swerved to miss a deer and entered the west ditch.  The vehicle then rolled over multiple times on an embankment, coming to rest on its roof.  Jesse refused treatment on the scene.  The front seat passenger, Fernando Ontiveros, age 34 of Reedsburg, denied being injured.  Three children in the back seat of the vehicle appeared to have serious injuries and were transported to UW Hospital by ambulance.  They were ages 7, 9 and 16 and they were also from the Baraboo-Reedsburg area.  It is believed that none of the passengers were wearing their seatbelts.  Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Merrimac Fire Department, Sauk Prairie Ambulance, Baraboo Ambulance, Sauk County Highway Department and Devil’s Lake State Park Ranger.  This crash remains under investigation by the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office.
