STH 33 Crash

**Special News Release**

August 17, 2011

On August 17, 2011 at approximately 1:34pm the Sauk County Communications Center was notified of a two vehicle traffic crash on STH 33 just west of Ableman Road in the Township of Excelsior. Sheriff’s Deputies, Reedsburg Fire Department, and Reedsburg Area Ambulance were immediately dispatched to the scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier, operated by Kenneth Wilk, age 38, of Reedsburg, WI, was westbound on STH 33 when it crossed over the centerline and struck an eastbound semi tractor trailer unit, owned by Tax-Air Freight, of Milwaukee, WI, and operated by Randall Kreger, age 42, of Sun Prairie, WI. Wilk and two juvenile passengers in his vehicle had to be extricated using the JAWS of Life. Both juveniles were transported by Reedsburg Ambulance to Reedsburg Area Medical Center, Wilk was transported to UW Hospital in Madison by UW Med-Flight Helicopter, and Kreger was treated and released at the scene.
STH 33 needed to be shut down for a substantial time due to this investigation. Seatbelt use is unknown at this time and charges are pending. This crash remains under investigation by the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin State Patrol. The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Wisconsin State Patrol Inspectors, Wisconsin State Patrol Accident Reconstruction Unit, Sauk County Highway Department, Reedsburg Fire Department, and Reedsburg Area Ambulance.
