STH 33 Crash

On April 27, 2017 at approximately 11:20pm the Sauk County Communications Center was notified of a two vehicle head on collision on STH 33 just west of Coonbluff Road in the Town of Excelsior.  Sheriff’s Deputies, a Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper, a Reedsburg Police Officer, Baraboo Fire Department, and Baraboo District Ambulance were immediately sent to the scene.

The initial investigation revealed that a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am operated by Cody K. Bolt, age 29, of Reedsburg, WI, was eastbound on STH 33 when it crossed over the centerline and struck a westbound 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix operated by Shawn P. Higgins, age 34, of Reedsburg, WI.  Bolt was flown to UW Hospital by Med Flight Helicopter and Higgins was transported to UW Hospital by Baraboo Ambulance.

Both subjects were wearing their seatbelts and alcohol is a factor in this crash.  Sauk County Sheriff’s Accident Reconstruction Team was requested to investigate and, as a result, traffic on STH 33 was shut down for approximately 3 ½ hours.

This incident remains under investigation by the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office.
