STH 33 Crash - UPDATE

On June 6, 2012 at approximately 5:29pm the Sauk County Communications Center was notified of a multi vehicle traffic crash on STH 33 at the intersection of Coonbluff Road in the Township of Excelsior. Reedsburg Fire Department, Reedsburg Ambulance, and Sauk County Sheriff’s Deputies were immediately sent to the scene. Wisconsin State Patrol also responded to assist.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a vehicle driven by Kelly Shaw of Reedsburg, WI was stopped in the eastbound lane of STH 33 to turn left (north) onto Coonbluff Road when she was rear ended by another eastbound vehicle driven by Jason Gerike of Reedsburg, WI. This collision caused the vehicle to cross over the centerline into the westbound lane of traffic and strike a westbound vehicle head on.
The driver of the westbound vehicle, later identified as Robert Rutkowski, age 24, of Madison, WI was pronounced dead at the scene by Sauk County Coroner Greg Hahn. Both drivers of the other vehicles and an infant passenger were transported to St. Clare Hospital by Reedsburg Ambulance.

This incident remains under investigation by the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin State Patrol.
