Structure Fire

On September 3 2011 at 7:06 p.m. Baraboo Fire, Baraboo Ambulance and the Sauk County Sheriff’s Department were dispatch to S6040 Forest Drive for a possible structure fire.
Upon arrival of the first fire department unit, there was heavy fire showing from the front of the two story single family dwelling.
Fire personnel arrived in two Engines, two Water Tenders, a Squad and Command Car. The fire proved difficult to extinguish because of water supply and remote location.
Two people were reported as possibly being in the house. Initial arriving fire personnel attempted to search the house, but the intense heat from the fire spread proved too much to continue a search.
Seven other fire departments responded to the scene with Water Tenders and personnel. Two other departments responded to the Baraboo Fire Station to fill in. There were no calls for service while they were there.
The home was a total loss. Due to the extensive damage and the integrity of the structure, heavy equipment was called into to assist with fire extinguishment.
During the final extinguishment, one body was located in the burned home.
The cause of this fire is under investigation, through a cooperative effort between Baraboo Fire Department and Sauk County Sheriff’s Department Personnel.
The Baraboo Fire Department was assisted by the following departments through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System: Kilbourn, Reedsburg, Prairie Du Sac, Sauk City, Lake Delton, North Freedom, Merrimac, Loganville and LaValle.
The Baraboo Fire Department was further assisted at the scene by the Sauk County Sheriff’s, Alliant Energy, Baraboo District Ambulance Service, Jeff Blum of JRB Enterprises and Salvation Army.
On September 4, 2011 the Sauk County Sheriff’s Department and the Baraboo Fire Department resumed their investigation into the cause of the fire. During this process another body was recovered from the burned home.
The identity of the two victims of this fire need to be identified and the Sauk County Sheriff’s Department is leading this process.
