Town of Sumpter Crash

Special News Release

January 2, 2013

On January 2, 2013 at 8:26 AM the Sauk County Communication Center received a 911 call that there was a two car traffic crash on HWY 12 at Center Rd in front of Badger Ordinance in the Town Sumpter.

Upon the arrival of the deputies they found both vehicles were off the highway in the ditch on the west side. The initial investigation by the deputies shows that a Volkswagen was being operated in the northbound lanes of HWY 12 was attempting to turn west onto Center Rd. The driver of the Volkswagen pulled out in front of a southbound BMW. The resulting crash caused both vehicles to enter the south bound ditch. As the Volkswagen entered the ditch it overturned coming to rest on its roof.

The operator of the Volkswagen was transported to the UW Hospital as a result of their injuries by Med-flight. The operator of the BMW was transferred to St. Clare Hospital for their injuries by the Sauk Prairie Ambulance Service. The names of the operators of the vehicles are not being released at this time pending notification of family.

The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Sauk Prairie Ambulance Service, Sauk Prairie Fire Department, UW Med-Flight and the Sauk County Highway Department. The accident remains under investigation.
