Two Men Arrested in Theft of Gasoline

During the early morning hours on September 24, 2013, the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office received an alarm from the Reedsburg Country Club. Upon the arrival of Sheriff's Deputies and officers from the Reedsburg Police Department, two men were taken into custody. Colton R. Whitaker, age 24, from Mauston, was charged with burglary, theft, and two counts of bail jumping. Colton’s brother, David J. Whitaker Jr., age 32, from Grand Marsh, was charged with three counts of burglary, three counts of theft, and bail jumping. Upon officer’s arrival, the brothers were pumping gasoline into storage containers located in the trunk of their vehicle. The brothers also made entry to a secured building to facilitate the theft. The Sheriff’s Office had an ongoing investigation where gas was stolen on multiple occasions. The investigation revealed David Whitaker was involved in two prior incidents and was currently out on bond from Adams County. Colton Whitaker is currently out on bond from Juneau and Adams Counties.

 

If convicted David Whitaker could face 37 years of imprisonment, a fine up to $75,000, or both. Colton Whitaker could face 12 years of imprisonment, a fine up to $25,000, or both.

 

David and Colton remain in the Sauk County Jail.
