**Updated News Release**

On April 11, 2017 at approximately 4:30am the Sauk County Communications Center received a report of a single vehicle crash on interstate 90/94 near the eastbound mile marker 89.  When emergency crews arrived on scene they discovered the crash involved an on-duty Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper.

Wisconsin State Patrol requested the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office to conduct the crash investigation.  This is common practice in this type of incident.

At approximately 4:30am Wisconsin State Trooper Anthony Borostowski, age 34 of Tomah, WI, was parked in the median near mile marker 89 in a marked 2009 Crown Victoria patrol car.  Trooper Borostowski pulled out of the median and was traveling eastbound on I90/94.  Approximately one mile later Trooper Borostowski lost control of his patrol car causing it to leave the roadway and strike a tree.  Trooper Borostowski was killed instantly.

The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate to determine if Trooper Borostowski was attempting to catch up to a violator and what caused him to lose control of his patrol car.  High speed was a factor in this crash.  According to a witness he did not have any of his emergency lights activated at the time of the crash.  If anyone was a witness to this crash we ask that they please call the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office at 1-800-377-1195.  This crash remains under investigation by the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office.
