The below statement regarding the active investigation of the drive by shooting on interstate 90/94 on May 1, 2016 was given by Sheriff Chip Meister during the press conference on May 2, 2016.

At approximately 2:55 pm the Sauk County Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a drive-by shooting on Interstate 90/94 near mile post 95.  The caller reported that there was one victim in a vehicle at that location.  Dells-Delton EMS and law enforcement from the Wisconsin State Patrol, Lake Delton Police Department, and the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office were immediately sent to the scene.

This investigation is on-going; however preliminary investigation revealed that a 43 year old male, his 44 year old wife, and their two minor children were traveling eastbound on I90/94 back to their home in Illinois from the Wisconsin Dells area.  The male was passing a Chevrolet Blazer when the operator of the Blazer rolled down his window and fired three rounds into the vehicle.  The Blazer continued eastbound on I90/94 with a witness following it.

The first round entered the rear passenger side door of the vehicle and lodged inside the door.  The second round entered the front passenger window and struck in the neck.  As he was slowing down to pull over, a third round was fired into the hood of his vehicle.  He then pulled over and rendered aid to his wife until EMS units arrived on scene.  The male and the children were not injured.

The female was transported to St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo and then flown to UW Hospital in Madison by UW Med Flight.

We are not releasing any information about the victims.  They have asked for privacy at this time and we are granting that request and ask that you also grant that request.
