UPDATED PRESS RELEASE FROM SAUK PRAIRIE PD

Updated News Release

On March 21, 2013 at approximately 8:40pm the Sauk Prairie Police Department was notified by the Wisconsin Division of Probation and Parole that a subject, identified as Stephan Christian, age 58, of Madison, WI, was under their jurisdiction and was being monitored by an ankle GPS bracelet.  It was further reported that Christian was at the Ace Hardware Store in the Village of Sauk City for an extended period of time.  Probation and Parole had reason to believe the bracelet had been cut off.  Christian is a registered sex offender with prior sexual assault against children.

Sauk Prairie Police Officers were immediately sent to Ace Hardware Store and found the business to be closed.  Key holders were contacted and the business was searched.  Officers did not locate Christian; however, they located an ankle bracelet that had been cut off.

On March 22, 2013 the Sauk Prairie Police Department, Sauk County Sheriff’s Office, and the United States Marshal Service Badgerland Fugitive Task Force assembled to investigate leads and tips as to the whereabouts of Christian.  As a precaution, schools in the Villages of Sauk City and Prairie Du Sac were put on lockdown.   During the course of the investigation, information was obtained that led authorities to believe Christian was in the Richland Center area.  Richland Center Police Department and the Richland County Sheriff’s Office were contacted and located Christian walking in the area of Sextonville Road and USH 14.  Christian was taken into custody without incident.

The Sauk Prairie Police Department would like to thank the citizens for their involvement in this investigation. Citizen tips led authorities to Christian’s whereabouts.
