Minutes of the Regular Meeting

May 10, 2017

Members Present:    Judy Ashford, Chuck Spencer, John Dietz, Donna Stehling, Andy Andrews,

UWEX Staff Present: Jen Erickson, Meg Sage, Melissa Beernink, Caitlin Richardson

Call to Order

The meeting was called to order at 9:00 AM @ Chair Ashford.

Certification of Open Meeting Notice

Requirements of the Open Meeting Law were met. 

Approval of Agenda

Motion made by Spencer, second by Stehling to approve the agenda.  Motion carried.  All in favor.

Approval of Minutes of Last Meeting

Motion made by Spencer, second by Andrews to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of April 12, 2017.  Motion carried.  All in favor.

Public Comment:  None

Communications:  Correspondence shared.

Review Budget and Approval of Vouchers:

UW Extension:  Budget reviewed.  Motion made by Stehling, second by Spencer to approve the April 2017 UW Extension invoices in the amount of $1,818.96.  Motion carried.  All in favor.

Arts & Culture:  Budget reviewed.  Motion made by Dietz, second by Spencer to approve the April 2017 Arts & Culture invoices in the amount of $12,493.03.  Motion carried.  All in favor.

Departmental Updates

UW Extension

Matt Hanson will attend the May 16th Sauk County Board meeting as part of the midterm assessment process to address UW-Extension’s nEXT Generation project.

WACEC @ WCA Conference:  In lieu of a Wisconsin Assoc. Extension Committee’s Inc. (WACEC) annual meeting this year, WACEC activities will be hosted during the annual September Wisconsin Counties (WCA) conference.

Erickson was contacted by the folks at Farm Technology Days about Sauk County's interest in potentially hosting the event in 2021. Currently, Sauk County UW-Extension is without a full-time Ag Agent to assist with coordinating efforts.  Committee agreed that we need to learn a lot more about the process before any decisions can be made.  Erickson will coordinate a meeting with the Executive Director of Farm Technology Days and key departments for an informational meeting in June for a brief presentation and allow plenty of time for questions. We also need to hear from counties that have led FTD efforts in the past.  

UW-Extension made changes in the tenure process; Sage will miss the deadline to be eligible for tenure.

Arts & Culture

All large grants were paid out this month.

FoodWIse program update 

Caitlin Richardson is the new FoodWIse Coordinator for Dodge, Columbia and Sauk Counties.  New partners have been added for 2018 such as 4-K and Head Start children and parents.

Consideration of 2017 Good Idea Grant application(s): 

Sauk Prairie Area Historical Society (Sauk Prairie Photography):  Motion made by Stehling, second by Andrews to approve the $500 good idea grant for the Sauk Prairie Historical Society.  Motion carried.  All in favor.

Dave Erickson (Spring Green interviews):   Motion made by Stehling, second by Andrews to deny the $500 good idea grant for Erickson.  Motion carried.  All in favor.

Reedsburg Revitalization Organization:  Motion made by Stehling, second by Andrews to approve the $500 good idea grant for the RRO.  Motion carried.  All in favor.

UW- Extension Agent Report(s): 

Meg Sage, 4-H Youth Dev Agent:  Agent quarterly report shared; highlighted key programs.  Andrea Rippley, 4-H Summer Assistant will be joining UW-Extension May 23, 2017.

Jenny Erickson, CNRED Agent:  Erickson shared UW-Extension Community Development specialists and agents working directly in Sauk County this past month.  Design Reedsburg project shared.

Next meeting date: 

The next Regular meeting will be Wednesday, June 14, 2017, held in Room 213 of the West Square Building @ 9:00 AM
