ADRC To Hold Transportation Public Input Meeting May 12

BARABOO, WISCONSIN; April 17, 2014 -- The Aging & Disability Resource Center of Eagle Country/Sauk County will hold a public input meeting on Monday, May 12, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in Room B24 in the Sauk County West Square Building, 505 Broadway in Baraboo.  The purpose of the meeting is to discuss three proposed enhancements and changes to the ADRC’s transportation program.

The ADRC proposes resuming the popular “Get Out and Go” taxi subsidy program, last offered in 2010.  Under the program, area seniors age 60 and older and disabled adults would pay half-price for multiple-ride punch cards to utilize municipal taxi services within their communities.

The ADRC also proposes resuming another popular service that provides bus transportation for one-day excursions that encourage socialization, education and enrichment.  Such trips in the past have taken passengers to botanical gardens, museums and more.

Lastly, the ADRC proposes increasing the reimbursement that its volunteer driver escorts receive to match current Internal Revenue Service rate of 56 cents per mile, with the client’s share of the cost increasing from 30 cents to 40 cents per mile.  The volunteer driver escort program provides transportation to seniors and disabled adults to out-of-town medical appointments and other trips of necessity.

The mission of the ADRC is to empower and support older adults, adults with disabilities and their families by providing easily accessible, quality information and assistance in support of each individual’s choice for independence and enhanced quality of life.  As part of its services, the ADRC coordinates multi-modal transportation opportunities for Sauk County’s seniors and disabled adults.

Those persons unable to attend the meeting, but who would like to submit comments in advance may send them to: Keri Olson, Interim Director, Aging & Disability Resource Center, 505 Broadway, Baraboo, WI  53913, or kolson@co.sauk.wi.us by May 8, 2014.
