Baraboo Bike to Work Week June 6-10
Save money, exercise and take a car off the road by bicycling to work. Mayor Pat Liston proclaimed June 6 – 10 Bike to Work Week in Baraboo. Monday’s kick-off celebration begins at 7:00 AM outside the Coffee Bean Connection. Bike in on your way to work and enjoy a healthy snack and have a free bike check from Wildside Adventure Sports. At 9:00 AM Mayor Pat Liston leads a procession of bicycles around the square to officially start Bike to Work Week.
Employees commuting during Bike to Work Week can enter a drawing for prizes each time the employee bikes to work. Ask your employer if they participate and complete an entry form or call 355-3245. Blank entry forms can be obtained at either the Land Conservation office or the Aging & Disability Resource Center at 505 Broadway in Baraboo.
Employers who participate can receive the benefits of healthier employees! Bicycling employees can celebrate at week’s end by joining the crowd at The Barn Restaurant at 5:00 PM on Friday, June 11. Specials include $2.00 bottles of Fat Tire Ale.
If you haven’t biked to work before, plan ahead. As you commute, watch for wide shoulders and lanes marked for bicycles. Ride your planned route on the weekend and time your trip so that you are prepared for bicycle commuting. Roll up your work clothes along with a towel and freshen up and change when you get to work. If you plan ahead, you can leave a change of clothes at your desk.
An automobile costs the average commuter between $13.00 and $25.00 to operate every day. A bicycle only costs between eight cents and $1.15 to operate daily. Biking to work during Bike to Work Week could save you more than $100.00. Questions about Bike to Work Week can be answered by calling either 355-3245 or 355-3278. Join the celebration and Bike to Work!
