Conservation Camp Scholarships for Youth
The Sauk County Land Resources and Environment Department provides a limited number of scholarships to youth in the county each year.
Youth can qualify for scholarships to attend conservation camps hosted by Wisconsin Land + Water. The camps are the Upham Woods Conservation Camp in Wisconsin Dells for youth entering grades 6-8, or the Youth Conservation Camp in Manitowish Waters for students entering grades 9-12. Each camp introduces youth to conservation careers and allows them to explore the conservation field and the natural beauty of Wisconsin.
Scholarships will cover 50% of the camp registration fee. The scholarship amount is dependent on the amount of funding available and number of eligible applicants. Recipients will receive 50% or more in funding to attend the camp.
Learn more about the camps below or follow the links provided for additional information or to register.
If you have questions about the program, please contact us at (608) 355-3245 or email conservation@saukcountywi.gov
MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH CONSERVATION CAMP (JUNE 9-12): REGISTRATION OPEN NOW
The Upham Woods Conservation Camp for students entering into grades 6-8 is located in Wisconsin Dells, WI.
The cost to attend is $300.00 per person. The registration deadline is May, 17th. This camp is open to any student entering grades 6-8 in the 2024-2025 school year who is interested in natural resources or just like being outdoors!
This camp aims to provide students with positive educational outdoor experiences, help them better appreciate and understand nature, and offers an introduction to a wide variety of opportunities in natural resources and conservation careers. Professionals from various natural resources conservation agencies present on topics such as wildlife, ecosystems, water quality, fisheries, forestry, orienteering, and more! The professionals, as well as adult volunteers, serve as overnight staff and group leaders during the duration of the camp.
Upham Woods Outdoor Learning Center has been operating since 1941 and serves as a model residential outdoor learning center, managed by the University of Wisconsin – Madison Division of Extension. The center sits on a prime location on the Wisconsin River, two miles north of the Wisconsin Dells, offering an excellent “river classroom” to study both the natural and cultural history of Wisconsin.
HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH CONSERVATION CAMP (JUNE 17-20):
REGISTRATION OPEN NOW
Wi Land + Water Youth Conservation Camp for students entering into grades 9-12 takes place at the North Lakeland Discovery Center in Manitowish Waters, WI.

At camp, you will learn new skills to be enjoyed as lifelong recreational pursuits or incorporated into an outdoors career in conservation. You will have an opportunity to better understand and appreciate nature by exploring new interests or rediscovering past interests through hands on learning and recreation activities. Camp provides opportunities to meet new people and make friends from around the state while developing leadership skills. During all of these activities, you will also get to learn about your own impact on the environment and our connection to the natural world!
