Sauk City Fire Station

The Sauk City Volunteer Fire Department was organized in 1854, the same year that Sauk City , the oldest village in the state of Wisconsin , was incorporated. Five years later the firehouse was built in 1862. The design featured two pairs of wooden swinging doors topped with glass paned arched lintels in a Swiss German style. A tall tower provided rigging and space for drying their fire hoses.

The Sauk City Village Board was considering the firehouse's future at a meeting in 1993 when two volunteers stepped forward and organized the campaign to save and restore the building. The firehouse is now a part of the Sauk Prairie Area Historical Society and is a museum housing historic firefighting equipment.
