Usonian Inn

The Usonian Inn, originally the Rest Haven Motel, is an example of a classic motor lodge constructed in the early 1950's and opened for business in May, 1952. It was reported to be the first highway lodging between Madison and LaCrosse on Hwy. 14.

The motel was designed by a Frank Lloyd Wright apprentice, Taliesin architect J.C. Caraway and built by Kraemer Brothers Construction out of Plain, WI. Reynolds Aluminum Company was looking for volunteers to try their new aluminum siding product in 1952 and then they would choose one of the buildings to be featured in Life Magazine. The original owner chose to use the siding, but unfortunately the Rest Haven Motel was not selected for the Life Magazine feature.
