Under the Sauk County Animal Control Ordinance, Chapter 27, an animal with vicious or dangerous propensities such as large, wild animals, poisonous or venomous reptiles, insects, snakes, crocodilians, and spiders, and under the possession of any person residing within Sauk County jurisdiction will need a permit from the public health department. This can include specific animals such as, but not limited to, Apes, Baboons, Bears, Cheetahs, Crocodilians, Constrictor snakes (> 3 ft in length), Coyotes, Elephants, Game cocks (or other fighting birds), Hippos, Hyenas, Jaguars, Leopards, Lions, Lynxes, Monkey, Piranha fish (exceeding 6 in. in length), Pumas, Rhinos, Sharks, Snow leopards, Tigers, Wolves, Wolf-dog hybrids, venomous/biting insects, poisonous/venomous  spiders. If you are considering or already own an animal fitting this description, please contact the public health department at (608) 355-4327 to obtain a permit. Possessing an animal of this nature without a permit is enforceable under both Chapter 27 and Sauk County Code of Ordinance, Chapter 20.
