Public Health Sauk County is the regulating authority for Tattoo/Body Piercing establishments in Sauk County. We are in charge of licensing and inspecting all Tattoo/Body Piercing establishments in the county.  Our inspections aim to ensure that the practitioners are using proper practices that reduce the risk of blood borne disease such as HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, tetanus, syphilis, and tuberculosis.

TATTOOING WITHOUT A LICENSE IS ILLEGAL!

Tattoo Artists and Body Piercers must go through the proper measures in order to prevent serious illnesses to their customers and the public. Some people decide to pick up tattooing as a hobby without any experience or training. These illegal tattoo artists and piercers are placing financial gain before the health and well-being of their clients!

Fines for illegal tattooing range from $500.00-$2,000.00 for every day that a person is operating without the proper licenses.

In order to be considered a legal tattooist/body piercer one must acquire a Practitioner’s License from the State of Wisconsin as well as a Tattoo/Body Piercing Establishment License from Public Health Sauk County (d/b/a Sauk County Health Department).

If you know of anybody tattooing out of their home or other facility without a proper license you should immediately report it to Public Health Sauk County.
