HEPATITIS A

Hepatitis A is a liver infection caused by the Hepatitis A virus. Once you get Hepatitis A, you cannot get it again. Hepatitis A is spread by: 

  • Oral contact with objects ( such as food or drink accidentally contaminated by feces from a person infected with Hep. A), OR
  • Person-to-person contact 

Prevention: There is a 2-dose vaccine that can prevent Hepatitis A.

HEPATITIS B

Hepatitis B is a liver infection caused by the Hepatitis B virus. It is spread by contact with bodily fluids of an infected person (for example: sexual contact, sharing needles or syringes, razors or toothbrushes with an infected person)

Prevention: There is a 3-dose vaccine that can prevent Hepatitis B.

HEPATITIS C

Hepatitis C is a liver infection caused by the Hepatitis C virus. It is spread through contact with the blood of an infected person. 

Prevention: There is NO vaccine for Hepatitis C
There are pills available that can cure most infected with Hepatitis C. It is recommended that all patients with Hepatitis C get vaccinated for both Hepatitis A and B.
