Sauk County Health Department Achieves Level III Status

The Sauk County Health Department was notified this week, that we are now designated as a level III health department following a review by state health officials in December. All Health Departments in Wisconsin must meet the minimum requirements of a level I Health Department. Agencies must provide an additional 7 to 14 programs or services to meet the requirements of a level II or III health department. Sauk County is the fourth department out of 16 in the southern region, to receive the level III departmental status. With recent department National Accreditation, the last year has been an exciting culmination of the entire staff’s efforts.

“The department goes beyond providing basic public health nursing services to prevent and control communicable disease required of a level I department. Through the support of an actively engaged Board of Health, the Department is now able to provide 14 services beyond a level I department”, according to  Cindy Bodendein, Health Department Director.

The Health Department provides important services to the community such as:

Coalition building with community partners in order to improve the health of Sauk County.
Maternal and Child Health programming such as Women’s Infants and Child (WIC) and Nurse Family Partnership (NFP) Programs.
Food, Safety, and Recreational Licensing through the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Protection.
Prevention programs such as the Seal-a-Smile, Strong Bodies, and area Foot clinics.
